ISLAMIC, Persia (Pre-Seljuq). Samanids. Nuh II ibn Mansur, AH 365-387 / AD 976-997. Fals (Bronze, 27 mm, 2.30 g, 2 h), Uzkand, AH 377 = 987/8. Citing Ayach at the top, as ‘al-ḥājib’ (‘Chamberlain’) at the bottom; lā ilāh-a illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); mint formula and the name of ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Nuh as governor in the margin. Rev. ‘Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic), followed by Nūḥ ibn Manṣūr, and an official named ʿAbbās; the marginal legend reads: ‘amara bihī al-amīr Īlikrālsū ibn Tikīn sana sabʿ wa sabʿīn wa thalātha miʾa’ (‘It was ordered by Amir Ilekralsu ibn Tegin, year 377’ in Arabic). Album 1471. Extremely rare. Very fine.
